It’s hard to bond when you’re sleep-deprived.

At Petite Crew, a sister company of Westside Nannies, we help parents team up with LA’s most vetted Newborn Care Specialists so parents and babies can get the rest they deserve, at least until their little ones are successfully sleeping through the night.

Say goodbye to survival mode and bask in more blissful moments of bright-eyed bonding.

So much thought and planning went in to my partner and I having a baby so when it came to hire a Newborn Care Specialist to help us at night we wanted the absolute best. We wanted someone who was very experienced but could also let us figure it out as new parents and be willing to take our lead. Thankfully we found all of that and more. I can’t imagine having gone through this season in our life without her. We are forever grateful.

As entrepreneurs my husband and I didn’t have the luxury of a traditional maternity leave so we knew we needed to find an experienced team to help us after our daughter was born. The process of finding someone was seamless and the Newborn Care Specialists we hired were top notch. We’re excited to find a great nanny now!

We fully comprehend how much is at stake.

There is nothing more important than the safety and well-being of your children. At Petite Crew, we get it. We’re parents too, so we don’t take placing a professional in your home lightly. Our 10-point screening carefully weeds out those less than ideal to care for your infant.

We like to say, “It’s easier to become a member of the Soho House than it is to become a professional we’ll place in your home.” And, we mean it. We use the exact same process to vet the professionals who care for our own children. As a matter of fact —

Less than 4% of applicants pass our rigorous screening.

Our Newborn Care Specialists are:

To be considered as a candidate to care for your newborn, our specialists are required to have a minimum of 3 years of professional experience with babies.

Plus, when it comes right down to it, the basics matter. A Newborn Care Specialist won’t enter your home unless he or she is CPR-certified, a legal US citizen, and has a valid driver’s license to respond quickly on the rare chance of an emergency.

We start with an extensive social media review and end with the most thorough background check in the state of California.

Upon hire, each Newborn Care Specialist is fingerprinted, vetted by our private investigation team, and registered with Trustline, California’s comprehensive state-wide background check which accesses the California Department of Justice and the FBI databases.

Your home is an intimate place, and the thought of inviting someone to exist with your family, especially while you sleep, can feel uncomfortable at first.

Our team listens carefully to your concerns and matches a professional who has not only the right skills but also the right demeanor to make your working relationship natural and easy.

References can be faked, and we find that up to 30% are. So, our private investigation team starts by ensuring all candidates’ references are authentic. Then, our placement team only introduces you to those with glowing reviews, often given by families we already know.

As LA transplants we had no family living nearby which meant we needed to create our own support system after our baby was born. That came in the form of Angela, an incredible Newborn Care specialist. Angela calmed all our nerves and brought peace back into our life. Thank you!

Frequently Asked Questions

What do Newborn Care Specialists do?

We customize newborn care to the needs of your family. But, some parents struggle to know exactly what help to request. Don’t worry — if you fall into this category, our team can help you navigate what’s possible, then assist in building a plan that fits your lifestyle, budget, and timeline.

Here’s an example of what having a Newborn Care Specialist might look like:

  • It’s 7 p.m. and your specialist arrives for the evening.
  • Once your care provider is on duty, she will immediately get to work preparing for the rest of the evening.
  • If you are bottle-feeding during the evening, the first order of the night will likely be making a bottle for the next feeding and will be followed by any other preparations that may need to be done.
  • While your specialist is preparing for the next day, you and your partner may choose to share a meal out together to stay connected during these out-of-the-norm baby days.
  • While you’re away, she will continue working, stocking the nursery for the next day or washing bottle and pump parts, as needed.
  • When you come back home, you may sneak in a few snuggles, then unwind with your partner, and fall asleep at a reasonable hour.
  • While you sleep, your specialist may lightly rest as well, but her first priority is keeping an ear out for your baby. When needs arise, she will get up with your baby throughout the night, feeding him or her when hungry or bringing the baby to you to nurse.
  • Your Newborn Care Specialist will handle all burping, changing, swaddling, and soothing required throughout the night.
  • At 6:30 a.m., you awake for a shower and a cup of coffee, get a briefing from your specialist, then take over for the day, feeling refreshed from a full night’s sleep.

After 12-16 weeks, baby will likely be sleeping through the night. At that point, you can work with our team to secure nanny services for support throughout the day or simply say goodbye to your Newborn Care Specialist with a full heart, knowing you did what was best for your family during what for many is an overwhelming season.

When should I hire a Newborn Care Specialist?

Our Newborn Care Specialists book quickly, so we encourage you to start the process 3-4 months prior to your baby’s due date (or as early as possible). However, we invite parents to reach out anytime, even after your baby is born, and we’ll do our very best to help.

How much does it cost?

When working with Petite Crew, you’ll pay a $350 engagement fee to begin your search. Then, if you choose to hire a candidate using our services, a placement fee is due in order to confirm your booking.

From there, you will pay your Newborn Care Specialist a retainer to reserve your dates and then pay their wages weekly.

Newborn Care Specialists typically work either 10- to 12-hour overnight shifts or are hired to provide 24-hour care 5-7 days per week. Terms vary in length between 2 weeks and 6 months; on average, families hire an NCS for approximately 16 weeks (or until their baby is successfully sleeping through the night). Rates for a Newborn Care Specialists vary from $30-$60 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and number of children to be cared for (singleton or multiples).

Couldn't I use a lower-cost online database instead?

You could, but it makes us really nervous for you.

Unfortunately, there are unworthy candidates positioning themselves as more qualified than they actually are, especially in a lucrative professional childcare market. Did you know that upwards of 30% of candidates falsify at least one reference? Without our private investigation team diving deep, we wouldn’t know either.

Unlike online algorithms, we listen carefully to your needs and only recommend highly qualified candidates who we’ve spent time with and who have passed a rigorous 10-point screening.

When do Newborn Care Specialists sleep?

It’s important that your Newborn Care Specialist is well-rested. In most instances, your specialist is resting while your baby is sleeping. Just think of her as a firefighter who is on alert and ready to get to work as soon as a need arises. For longer, 24-hour shifts, most specialists require a 6-hour, undisturbed sleeping window.

Then comes the guilt.

You want to be fully present with your newborn, but won’t you be so. so. so. tired? Just the thought of those late nights and loooong days is enough to put anyone on edge. Believe us when we say: You’re not alone.
